The
U.S. Green Building Council reports that "in the United States alone, buildings account for:
- 70% of electricity consumption
- 39% of energy use
- 39% of all carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions
- 40% of raw materials use
- 30% of waste output (136 million tons annually)
- 12% of potable water consumption"
These statistics show that the design choices have a direct impact on the health of our planet.
Thus, designers take on a great responsibility to our environment and society. As a LEED Accredited
Professional, I make it my top priority to specify sustainable products, systems, and materials,
and to participate in projects that promote eco-friendly living and sustainable communities. As
a designer and as a human being, I am dedicated to preserving the earth for future generations
and respecting the environment to improve our society today.
